Cobalt Pool

Terms of service

The agreement

Cobalt Pool is a private hockey pool run for a known group of people. By signing in and playing, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the pool.

No money

This is a game played for virtual tokens only.

  • Tokens cannot be bought, sold, transferred, traded, or cashed out.
  • Tokens are not money and are not worth money. They have no monetary value and no exchange rate.
  • No entry fee is charged, and no prize is awarded. There is nothing to win except the standing in the pool and the achievements shown on your profile.
  • No wagering occurs. Betting a token on a hockey game here is a scoring mechanic, like points in a board game, not a wager.

Tokens enter the pool in exactly two ways: the weekly grant that every player receives, and the published achievement awards. There is no other source, and the ledger records every movement.

Playing fairly

  • One account per person. Do not share your account.
  • Do not attempt to break, overload, or probe the service, or to reach data or accounts that are not yours.
  • Do not automate play.

The pool keeps a complete ledger of every token movement and records administrative actions with a reason. That record exists so mistakes can be corrected and so unfair play is visible after the fact.

How the game is scored

The rules are on the How to play page, and they are the authoritative description of how the game works. In summary: each week you bet on NHL games, betting closes 60 minutes before puck drop, picking the winner pays double, and each team can be used once per cycle.

The pool has one administrator who may correct scoring mistakes, adjust a balance when something has gone wrong, or deactivate an account. Every such action is recorded with a reason and is visible in the audit log.

Availability

The pool is provided as-is, with no warranty, and may be unavailable at times. It depends on a third-party NHL data feed and on Google for sign-in, and either can fail. Bets are placed against the game times the pool has recorded; if a feed is wrong or late, the administrator may correct the outcome.

The operator may change the rules, change the scoring, or end the pool. Material changes will be mentioned in the pool.

Email from the pool

The pool stores the email address on your Google account so it can contact you about the game — most often a reminder to make your picks before a week closes. It is used for nothing else, and it is never shared or sold.

Ask the operator to stop emailing you at any time and it will not be used again.

Your data

What is collected, what your email address is used for, and what happens to it is described in the privacy policy.
